PG&E’s Safety Action Center Reaches One Million Californians at Anniversary of Launch

08/13/2020

Safety Action Center Provides Essential Emergency Preparation Tips

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- More than one million Californians have used resources at the Safety Action Center, a website created by Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) filled with safety tips and emergency preparation guides. Officially launched in August 2019, www.safetyactioncenter.pge.com houses safety information customers can use to prepare their homes and families for earthquakes, floods, wildfires, power outages or other natural disasters and emergencies.

As the height of wildfire season approaches, the Safety Action Center is an increasingly vital resource PG&E customers can reference to prepare for Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS). PSPS events are implemented by PG&E to protect public safety when fuel conditions, dry weather and high winds are forecasted which otherwise could cause tree branches or debris to contact energized electric lines, damaging our equipment and risking a major wildfire.

“One year ago, PG&E launched the Safety Action Center providing our communities and customers information on how to prepare for emergency events they may face. A lot has changed in just a year and we think this site is more relevant than ever for our customers. We look forward to adding new videos, tools and tips to the site and reaching as many Californians as possible to help keep our customers and their families safe,” said Matt Pender, director of PG&E’s Community Wildfire Safety Program.

On the interactive Safety Action Center website, customers can find tips on how to prepare for a power shutoff, learn what backup power options are best for their homes and medical needs, and most importantly, how they can update their contact information to receive notifications from PG&E in the event of a PSPS. The site also features information regarding clearing a fire-defensible space around their homes, working with neighbors to help each other in times of need and a series of practical “how to” guides and videos such as how to open a garage door during a power outage.

Visitors to the website can also find important public service information such as how to apply for rate relief during the COVID-19 emergency.
