PG&E Inducted Into the Women’s Business Enterprise Hall of Fame

12/15/2016

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) was recently inducted into the Women’s Business Enterprise (WBE) Hall of Fame for its support of supplier diversity and women’s business development. This national non-profit organization, which is in its eighth year of celebrating women-owned businesses and their advocates, named PG&E as the Corporate Leadership inductee at the annual awards program in Dallas on Nov. 29.

“Our diverse suppliers help us provide safe, reliable, affordable and clean energy to one of the most diverse customer bases of any energy company in the nation. We’re proud to have played a role in helping our suppliers, especially women-owned enterprises, grow and develop into viable entities. It’s all about working together to build a better California and a sustainable supply chain for the industry,” said PG&E Vice President of Supply Chain Management Gun Shim.

In 2015, PG&E spent a record $1.2 billion with women-owned businesses, representing an increase of $174.8 million (17.4 percent) from 2014. Over the past five years, the company’s spend with women-owned businesses has grown by $385.5 million (48 percent). PG&E’s spend with women-owned enterprises was a portion of an all-time high of $2.5 billion in spend—more than 40 percent of the company’s total spend—with diverse suppliers during 2015.

PG&E’s support of women-owned businesses has been nationally recognized. Earlier this year, the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) named PG&E as one of America’s top companies for women-owned businesses.

The company has also received numerous honors for its work with diverse suppliers. Among the acknowledgements PG&E has received this year include:

  • National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC): PG&E was recently named 2016 Corporation of the Year for its outstanding support and dedication to ensuring fairness and equal opportunity for LGBT suppliers, customers and employees.
