SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) today announced the addition of
environmental scientist Dr. Jonathan Foley to its external
Sustainability Advisory Council, a 10-member group of experts that
advises the company on its climate change, clean energy, economic
development and community vitality initiatives.
Foley currently serves as the Executive Director of the California
Academy of Sciences, located in San Francisco and one of the world’s
foremost environmental research and educational institutions. In his
role at the Academy, Foley, a world-renowned scientist and educator,
focuses on advancing the sustainability of the world’s ecosystems and
natural resources.
“We are thrilled to have Dr. Foley join our Sustainability Advisory
Council. He will bring his indispensable voice and deep scientific
expertise to bear as we chart the most sustainable course for PG&E in
helping to lead the transition to a low-carbon energy economy,” said
Geisha Williams, President, Electric, PG&E, who sits on the Board of
Trustees at the California Academy of Sciences.
“Finding solutions to some of world’s most pressing environmental and
energy challenges is a collaborative effort—one that PG&E has embraced
by establishing this Council. It is encouraging to see an energy
provider with a history of environmental and community leadership in its
industry and our state take the next step in its sustainability efforts.
I am excited to join the other Council members to inform PG&E’s journey
for a more sustainable future, for everyone,” said Foley.
Formed in October 2015, the Sustainability Advisory Council is a diverse
group of experienced leaders representing environmental and
sustainability groups, community organizations, academia and
policymakers. The Council works directly with PG&E Chief Sustainability
Officer Melissa Lavinson and other senior leaders to provide feedback
and guidance for the company’s efforts to provide safe, reliable,
affordable and clean energy to Northern and Central California today and
into the future.
“We look forward to continuing our productive engagement with the
Council. In Dr. Foley, we’ve added a renowned leader with impeccable

and build greater resilience against the potential impacts of extreme
weather and climate change,” said Lavinson.
