The annual rankings are based on the strength of company military
recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with previous military
service, retention programs and company policies on National Guard and
Reserve service.
“We are honored to receive this recognition of our ongoing programs to
support military veterans and our employees who serve in the Guard and
Reserve. Our efforts to hire, train and retain these individuals improve
the lives of our veterans, strengthen our company, and make our
communities better places to live,” said PG&E Corporation Chairman, CEO
and President Tony Earley.
PG&E will be featured along with other 2016 Military Friendly® Employers
in the December edition of G.I. Jobs Magazine, as well as the
January 2016 issue of Military Spouse Magazine and online at MilitaryFriendly.com.
PG&E is committed to training veterans for today’s energy industry jobs
through its PowerPathway™
career workforce training program. Nearly 800 people have
graduated—including 400 veterans—over the course of the program’s seven
years. More than 80 percent of graduates have been hired by PG&E or
others in the utility industry.
PowerPathway has received national recognition for its efforts in
training veterans for a civilian career. For example, Vice
President Joe Biden highlighted the program during a visit to a
veterans-only training class in Oakland earlier this year. The utility
also earned the Faraday
Award at this year’s Electric Power Conference for its success with
PowerPathway. In addition, the program recently graduated its first
active military member.
In late October, PG&E recognized its initial
direct-to-hire PowerPathway class for customer service
representatives. The class, consisting solely of 17 veterans, was held
in Fresno as part of the company’s initiative to address the area’s
long-term unemployment situation.
In addition, PG&E recently announced plans for the first-ever
PowerPathway program for active-duty service members. The training
session will be held during the first quarter of 2016 at Joint Base
Lewis-McChord (JBLM), a U.S. Army-U.S. Air Force base located south of
Tacoma, Wash.
PG&E’s support of veterans dates back to World War I. The Employer
Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) honored PG&E this year for its
support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. In
June, PG&E unveiled the “1,000
Careers Project.” This long-term career hiring program has the goal
of hiring 1,000 veterans into PG&E careers over the next eight years.
PG&E also established a Veterans Employee Resource Group (ERG) in 2011.
The ERG’s goal is to educate, support and develop PG&E employees with
military experience, as well as their supporters. Now in its fourth
year, more than 1,000 employees have joined the group. Membership in the
Veterans ERG is open to all full-time employees.
The Military Friendly Employers list is now in its 13th year
and is recognized as the premier resource for transitioning service
members and spouses seeking civilian employment.
PG&E’s company profile can be found on MilitaryFriendly.com.
