SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) today announced that over 10,000
customers have completed the Energy
Upgrade California® Home Upgrade program across its service area and
received over $27 million in incentives to help offset the cost of
energy efficiency upgrades. The program has allowed customers to save a
total of 13,019 metric tons of carbon, the equivalent of taking 2,741
cars of the road.
The Home Upgrade program encourages homeowners to take a comprehensive,
whole-house approach to energy efficiency to maximize savings, rather
than making upgrades one at a time. Participating customers reduced
their home energy usage by an average of 18 percent with some customers
saving as much as 63 percent. Their actions include a range of upgrades
such as updating heating and air conditioning systems, insulating walls
and attics, sealing air leaks and more.
“We want to help of all of our customers save money and save the
environment,” said PG&E Senior Director of Energy Efficiency Vincent
Davis.
Home Upgrade includes two options for participating customers:

Option one: Customers choose three or more upgrades from a menu of the
most common energy saving upgrades – such as duct sealing or attic
insulation – and work with a local, participating contractor to
install the upgrades. After the work is complete, customers receive
rebates and incentives of up to $3000.

Option two: Local, participating contractors trained in the
whole-house approach create a customized upgrade package for the
customer that maximizes energy savings. For this package, customers
can choose from additional upgrades – from upgrading pool pumps or
roofs to installing efficient lighting or tank-less water heaters.
Customers receive rebates and incentives of up to $6500, or more,
based on how much energy is saved with the upgrades.
PG&E works with Build It Green, a residential green building non-profit
based in Oakland, Calif., to help customers across PG&E’s service area
understand the benefits of the whole-house approach and find a
contractor to perform the upgrades. PG&E also works closely with the Bay
Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN), a collaboration of the nine
counties in the San Francisco Bay Area that oversees the program in the
Bay Area.
