PG&E Corporation Comments on Boxer-Kerry Proposal for Climate and Energy Legislation

09/30/2009

(Washington, DC) -- PG&E Corporation today issued the following statement from Chief Sustainability Officer and Vice President, Federal and Environmental Affairs Steven L. Kline, commenting on the release of draft climate change and energy legislation by Senators Barbara Boxer and John Kerry :

“We commend Chairmen Boxer and Kerry for taking this important step to advance climate legislation in the Senate and move the nation closer to adopting a comprehensive climate change and energy policy.

“At a time when the country and the Congress face a number of pressing issues, the introduction of today’s bill is a reminder that climate change and energy legislation must remain a top priority for America. By crafting smart, responsible climate and energy policy, we can provide certainty for business, spur investments in new technology, enhance America’s long-term economic competitiveness, and protect consumers.

“PG&E looks forward to working with all parties throughout the Senate process to ensure passage of a bill that establishes a market-based cap-and-trade system, contains costs for consumers and puts a value on clean energy to incentivize new investments in technology and efficiency that will strengthen our economy and enable us to responsibly lower greenhouse gas emissions.”
