PG&E Corporation Foundation Pledges $1 Million Donation For New York Relief Efforts

09/18/2001

(San Francisco, CA) -- The PG&E Corporation Foundation today announced that it is contributing $1 million to assist victims of the attacks on the World Trade Center. The Foundation is currently working with New York Governor George Pataki's office to determine where funds are needed most.

"All Americans have been touched by the tragic events that occurred on Tuesday, September 11," said PG&E Corporation Chairman, CEO, and President Robert D. Glynn, Jr. "Like so many we felt it was important to offer assistance and support to those whose lives have been changed forever by the events of last week."

PG&E Corporation's utility unit, Pacific Gas & Electric Company, has donated time and assistance to victims as well. After the attack, the California utility temporarily loaned highly-skilled customer service representatives from call centers to local American Red Cross chapters to assist with the overwhelming public response from Californians. Pacific Gas & Electric Company is also working with the American Red Cross and other local blood banks to set up special on-site blood drives at Company locations.

Due to an outpouring of employee support, the Corporation's California utility has also arranged to allow employees to convert unused vacation time into cash for direct donations to the American Red Cross.

In the aftermath of the attacks, Pacific Gas & Electric Company stands ready to provide mutual assistance to Consolidated Edison through the California Utilities Emergency Association.

In addition to the Foundation's charitable gift, continued efforts are underway to provide assistance from other PG&E Corporation affiliates where there is the greatest need.

The PG&E Corporation Foundation is an independent charitable trust established in early 2000 by PG&E Corporation to support educational, environmental, and general community purposes, including disaster response.
