PG&E Receives National Award for Minority Supplier Development

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) was recently honored for its success in accelerating the growth of minority-owned businesses. The company became the first local or regional enterprise to receive the Gazelle Award from the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC). The accolade was presented at the NMSDC’s annual conference and business opportunity exchange in Chicago.

PG&E established a company record by spending $1.6 billion with minority-owned businesses in 2015. This performance was one reason why PG&E was recognized for its rapid progress in spending with minority businesses, with growth rates at a pace of 30 percent or greater.

Over several decades, PG&E has focused on working with suppliers that reflect the diversity of the communities we serve—and giving those suppliers opportunities to grow and expand,” said PG&E Corporation Chairman, CEO and President Tony Earley.

PG&E has been committed to supporting a diverse supply chain for 35 years while developing one of California’s leading supplier diversity programs. In 2015, PG&E not only spent a record $2.5 billion with diverse suppliers (including women- and disabled veteran-owned), the company spent more than $2 billion for the fourth consecutive year.

Over the last 12 months, PG&E’s supplier diversity program has received numerous honors:

In October, PG&E was named to the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s “Million Dollar Club” for the third consecutive year for spending a record $602.4 million with Hispanic-owned businesses in 2015.
In September, PG&E received an “A”—its highest grade ever—for its 2015 supplier diversity efforts from The Greenlining Institute.
In August, PG&E made Minority Business News USA Magazine’s (MBNUSA) 2016 Corporate 101: Most Admired Companies in Supplier Diversity.
In May, PG&E was named as one of the top utilities in the nation for diversity by DiversityInc.
In March, PG&E was recognized as one of America’s top companies for women-owned businesses by the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council.
Last December, Earley was named to MBNUSA’s 2015 “Best of the Decade” list for PG&E’s long track record of supporting minority business development. In addition, PG&E Director of Supply Chain Responsibility Joan Kerr was inducted into the publication’s Circle of Honor.
