PG&E Applauds Passage of Senate Bill 350; Important Next Step to Address Climate Change

09/12/2015

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Pacific Gas and Electric Company today thanked the Governor and the legislative authors of Senate Bill 350 for their vision and commitment in ensuring that California continues to lead the nation in significantly reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. With the passage of the bill late Friday night, SB 350 increases the state’s Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) to 50 percent by 2030, and doubles state energy efficiency goals. The bill supports the Governor’s April Executive Order setting a new goal to reduce GHG emissions by 40 percent below 1990 levels by 2030.

“This bill sends a strong and important message that California will continue to lead and take bold action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions – a commitment PG&E shares and fully supports,” said PG&E Corporation Chairman, CEO and President Tony Earley.

PG&E fully supported SB 350 as an important step toward achieving California’s aggressive climate change and clean energy goals. The utility has made significant contributions to the state’s progress and is well on its way to meeting California’s current renewable energy target of 33 percent ahead of schedule. PG&E appreciates the flexibility the bill provides in banking of excess renewable energy purchases, which will allow it to increase its renewable energy deliveries in a cost-effective way for customers.

PG&E also supported the bill’s challenging targets on energy efficiency and will use its full array of tools and programs to help achieve those goals. The utility also appreciates the bill’s authors for recognizing the importance of advancing discussions around electric vehicles (EV). PG&E is committed to ongoing leadership on energy efficiency, support for rooftop solar, investments in smarter energy infrastructure, and helping to enable the broader adoptions of EVs.

PG&E recognizes that further steps are needed to fully achieve the state’s long-term energy goals, and believes by working together, we can all build a better California and help lead the nation and the world into a cleaner energy future.
