Bethesda, Md.- PG&E Corporation's (NYSE: PCG) National Energy Group announced today that Kinko's Inc., will set a new corporate environmental precedent by agreeing to be the first to purchase Pure Windsm certificates from the company's 11.5-megawatt Madison Windpower Project, currently under construction in central New York State.

Kinko's, the world's premier "clicks and bricks" document solutions provider and recognized environmental leader, has announced its intention to buy Pure Windsm certificates associated with 50 percent of Kinko's statewide electric demand. Kinko's intended purchase corresponds to approximately 4.5 million kilowatt hours of emission-free electricity supplied by the Madison Windpower Project to the New York power pool.

"When we created the Pure Windsm program, we wanted to provide other like-minded companies with the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to environmental leadership," said PG&E National Energy Group Director of Strategy and New Initiatives G. Muir Davis. "Kinko's has done exactly that, coming on board with Pure Windsm and Madison Windpower just after we started construction on the project. Our companies share a common goal in continuing to raise the bar for excellence and reducing the environmental impacts of our business operations."

Kinko's sets a high standard for corporate stewardship. Its environmental initiatives include energy efficient lighting in stores, a commitment to not knowingly purchase wood or paper products derived from the harvesting of old-growth forests, and a commitment to offering a wide selection of recycled and tree-free paper stocks. In 1999, Kinko's increased the amount of recycled paper it purchased by more than 21 percent.

"Environmental stewardship runs deep at Kinko's," said Kinko's Area Vice President Rob Schlacter. "We view the Pure Windsm initiative as a chance for us to extend our efforts and pioneer a whole new approach to corporate environmentalism."

According to Larry Rogero, Kinko's environmental manager, Kinko's has previously purchased renewable energy for approximately 90 of its stores located in California, Colorado and Pennsylvania. "Kinko's Environmental Vision Statement explicitly states that we will use energy-efficient technologies and renewable energy sources. Our goal is to lessen the impact Kinko's exerts on the environment, while simultaneously providing the products and services valued by our customers."

The Pure Windsm certificates correspond to equivalent amounts of wind-generated electricity delivered to the New York power pool, and represent emissions avoided over other New York State power generation facilities. In an average year, Kinko's Pure Windsm certificates from the Madison facility would represent savings of approximately 750 tons of emissions. Total output for the Madison Windpower facility in an average year will avoid 12,000 tons of CO2, 65 tons of SO2, and 19 tons of NOx, based on equivalent generation from fossil fuel plants in the state.

To further the process of bringing renewable power to New York State, the Madison Windpower Project was awarded a research and development contract by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

At the plant site in Madison County, New York, the first of the wind turbines is currently being erected. When construction is complete in September, Madison Windpower's seven Vestas V-66 turbines will have the capacity to generate approximately 11.5 megawatts of electricity. In an average year, that equates to over 24,000 megawatt-hours of emission-free electricity. Madison Windpower will connect to the Northeast power grid through the New York State Electric & Gas Transmission System and the New York Independent System Operator (ISO).
